If you are still breathing, then these exercises of mine are for you. Seriously!
"Affecting, moving, admirable, the performing techniques involved, especially the breath control, defy belief.” — International Herald Tribune
" [Lee’s] sound is so astonishingly pure; it aches with the sadness of loss and the sadness of wisdom, pulses with the joy of being alive and whispers of an elegance almost too exotic to be true. — Sydney Morning Herald
Shakuhachi player since 1971. Grand Master since 1980.
When I began learning the shakuhachi, almost nobody had heard of it outside of Japan. My teachers expected me to help to change that. I've been trying to follow my teachers' advice for the past nearly fifty years.
Part of that involved me sharing the breathing techniques that I learned from my teachers.
Now I need your help to do more.
If you would like to help me make more music on my flutes, or just simply want to listen to my music, please join Riley's Private Music Group. You will be invited to join our private Facebook page, where you can find me most days.
In appreciation (and also in anticipation of future online breathing workshops), I want to give you my own personal set of breathing exercises, which I use when teaching my internationally-acclaimed Breathe! workshops.
